Custom Garage Doors: Wilma Rudolph Pavilion Clarksville, TN

Around midnight on May 2nd 2008, a devastating tornado demolished the Wilma Rudolph Pavilion in Clarksville. Before its destruction, the pavilion was home to numerous community, organization, and state functions including the North Tennessee State Fair, the Clarksville Kennel Club’s Dog Show, and amateur boxing matches. The city of Clarksville immediately started planning to rebuild the pavilion better than before.

The Wilma Rudolph Pavilion was named to honor Tennessee native, American athlete, and Olympic champion Wilma Goldean Rudolph. In the summer of 1960, Wilma Rudolph became the first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field during a single Olympic Games and was considered to be the fastest woman in the world. Rudolph is also regarded as a great civil rights and women’s rights pioneer. A building honoring such an amazing American athlete was designed to encapsulate her legacy while providing a home for Clarksville’s social events. A statue of Rudolph during her historic run in the 1960 Summer Olympics was erected near the pavilion around the corner from seven large welded aluminum custom garage doors.

The custom garage doors, fabricated by Arm-R-Lite, were chosen for the pavilion for their strength, endurance, and stunning appearance. Arm-R-Lite helped this project move toward a LEADs Green certification as well as provided our customer garage doors with our exclusive polyurethane expanding foam filled insulated rails and stiles and 1” insulated low E tempered glazing for maximum energy efficiency. With a 20 year warranted architectural Kynar® finish and a 20 year welded frame warranty, these exclusively welded aluminum doors will perform for decades longer than competitive models and ensure the Wilma Rudolph Pavilion can continue to cater to the city of Clarksville for years to come.
